OK, if you are moving a directory branch from AIX to Win2K Pro, you probably
are not worried about ACLs, unless you have a very interesting environment.
If you are concerned about preserving file dates, than you should be able to
tar the branch, then gzip the tar ball if compression is important
(according to http://www.gzip.org/#faq16). Since other tools already let you
grab entire branches, unless you just really enjoy perl scripting, I would
go with a tool that handles the branch for you for free.

Of course, you have your choice of tricks for making one filespace visible
to the other OS, then letting the other OS copy the branch.
