        Hello all IMAGE users,

The March 1998 issue of the SIGIMAGE Newsletter is
now available on the web. Courtesy of a lot of work by
Editor Alfredo Rego to format and re-format this edition
as additional contributions were sent to him right up to
the final day before publication, you can access this
"hot of the press" issue in whichever of three different
formats is best for you. It contains a lot of information:
If you print single-sided, make sure you have at least
20 pages in your printer tray !!

In addition to what I hope you will agree are a lot of good
articles, a change for 1998 is that detailed descriptions
of the items on the '98 SIGIMAGE Enhancement Ballot
are included in this Newsletter, starting on page 14.
Unless you are very familiar with the intent and technical
ramifications of all items for '98, users are strongly urged
to carefully read the Enhancement Descriptions before
submitting a ballot. The wording on the ballot itself is
        very abbreviated.

Once you have reviewed the articles and the supporting
info for the '98 Ballot in the Newsletter as much as you
like, then please go ahead and submit a ballot. This
year we have tried to make it as easy as possible: You
can vote electronically via the web !!.. This "first-time-for
SIGIMAGE" capability (and I believe for any Interex SIG)
is courtesy of a development effort by fellow SIGIMAGE
Executive Committee (SIEC) member Joe Geiser of CSI
        Business Solutions, LLC.

Since "IMAGE R Us", as it were, voting on the '98 Ballot
via the web is of course being tallied in an Image/SQL
database running on an HP3000/927. All you have to do
        is point your browser at:

        http://www.csillc.com/sigimage/

There you will find instructions, hot links to the three
versions of the March '98 Newsletter; plus other links
that may be of help in obtaining the Newsletter and
        submitting a ballot.

You will also be able to submit hardcopy versions of the
'98 Enhancement Ballot on-site at IPROF if you wish; and
an email version of the ballot is available by request from
[log in to unmask] . But if at all possible users are
asked to vote electronically via the above URL. Doing so
will make processing the results a lot easier for the SIEC.

NOTE: A few people have already voted using the initial
"Version # 1" of the 1998 Ballot that was distributed at
HP World - Chicago. So many items have moved to the
"Now/Soon Available in Image/SQL" list since then that
all users are encouraged to submit a ballot on the web
using the latest version. Earlier votes on "Version # 1"
will be superceded if you submit a ballot via the web.

If by chance you should wish to review the Newsletter at
length prior to submitting a ballot, you can go directly to
        the following URL's:

For the PDF version (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader or
        equivalent):
>
You can download the Acrobat Reader for free at:
        http://www.adobe.com/prodindex/acrobat/readstep.html

To view the March issue online in HTML format:
>
To download your very own PostScript version:
>
Finally, if you want your vote to be included in the total
that determines which IMAGE enhancements will be
sent forward to the Interex System Improvement Ballot
(SIB) that goes out to the entire Interex membership,
please be sure to submit a '98 Ballot by 31 March '98
(which is 10 days after IPROF is over).

Your best chance to influence the future direction of
        IMAGE enhancements: SUBMIT A '98 BALLOT !!

        thanks,

        Ken Sletten
