I don't want to start a flame war or anything, but. . .

We are about to purchase two 918 LX's. I've received quotes from HP
Channel Partners that are over 150% of the prices I've been quoted
from third-party suppliers (one channel partner referred to them as
gray market suppliers, hence the subject line). I'm not opposed to
anyone making a fair profit (heck, that's what pays my bills!), but
doesn't this seem a little excessive to you? It does to me! So:

Question #1: What is the legitimacy of these third-party suppliers?
Are they truly gray market? What is HP's "official" stance on them?

Question #2: What have your experiences been with third party suppliers?
We've pretty much decided who we're going to buy from, but specific
recommendations/warnings via private email would be appreciated, as well
as general warnings/recommendations.

Responses are welcome from customers and third-party suppliers.
