Assuming you mean "volume set"...

It appears to be 254 or 255, but I haven't tested it.
That's based on the values of the MPE/iX constants:
     C_MAX_VOLUMES                        INTEGER      $ff
     MAX_VOLS                             SUBRANGE     $fe

(I mentioned to HP the apparent discrepancy between the two
constants a year or so ago.)

If you mean "volume class" (a subset of a volume set), then I don't
know the answer, but would guess 254 or 255.
