I installed a Seagate 4.2GB drive (whose model# isn't available
to me just now) a few weeks ago. I bought the drive at NCA peripherals,
for $1050 (no box) and added a box (with power supply).
So, I got 4.2GB for about $1100.
I configured it as HPC2474S (a smaller HP SCSI disk drive) ... not because
that was the "correct" way to do it ... but because I was experimenting,
and thought "SCSI is SCSI, sort of, and MPE might not care what kind
of disk I say it is, since it will ask the disk 'how big are you' anyway".
And, it worked.
I was concerned about the "sector atomicity" that HP sales reps tell us
is so important, so I did a PTC power cycle during write-intensive
tests four or five times, with nary a parity error. (PTC = Pull The Cord)
Would I recommend this for business data? No
Would I recommend this for MPEXL_SYSTEM_VOLUME_SET data? No
Would I recommend this for people who like to experiment? Yes
I used it for testing jumbo datasets (datasets > 4GB).
