Looks like somebody has reduced the values of the number to the bit pattern
that will produce the bar code on a specific printer.....which deviousness
shouldn't really be necessary.

Eg we print labels and bar codes on Meto printers, and here is a spoolfile
destined for one

Don't know if that helps you though. I would lay out the bit pattern and see
if you can see the numbers in say, 4 bit sets, rather than 8 bit ascii.

Subject: [HP3000-L] HP Bar Codes

Hi All,

We use an HP Bar Code Font to print EAN-13 barcodes on labels. I'm curious
if
anyone knows how they work. Until now, we have only needed to print EAN-13's
that start with "978". I would like to print all EAN-13's but cannot figure
out how.

For example, to print the EAN-13 barcode "9780596002725", one would print
the
following sequence of characters.

(7ia5j6-AACHCF(

These 12 characters represent the last 12 characters of the number, the 9 is
not represented anywhere so I believe the 9 must come from which characters
use numberics or alphas which determine the first character of the barcode.
The barcode above uses numerics in position one, four, and six. This seems
to
work for any barcode starting with a 9 but I can't figure out how to print
EAN-13's with a different leading digit.

Is there anyone out there who understand's this voodoo :)?

Thanks,
Pete
