WipeDisk supports DoD 5220-22.M clearing and sanitization methods
c and d:

   method  description

     c Overwrite all addressable locations with a single character.

     d Overwrite all addressable locations with a character,
           its complement, then a random character and verify.

...as described in the "Clearing and Sanitization Matrix"
in section 8-306 of the original **1995* 5220-22.M spec at
http://www.dss.mil/isec/nispom.htm.
(Note that the two later revisions to the spec removed the
data sanitization definitions.)

The next release will have the HIPPA recommended:

   “Overwrite all addressable locations with a character,
    then its complement. Verify ‘complement’ character was written
    successfully to all addressable locations, then
    overwrite all addressable locations with random characters;
    or verify third overwrite of random characters.”

</unplug>
