Discs that are part of the MPEXL_SYSTEM_VOLUME_SETmake up a single logical
volume. It is not possible
to remove individuals from this volume set without a re install of the
system. MPE/iX Re-install instructions are
attached to the end of this Email.

Beechglen will continue to support the HP3000 for as long as our customers
care to run on this phenomenal platform. In fact, we have several customers
still running Classic MPE/V on Micros and Series 52s! Their theory is "if it

business qualities, they are bought and paid for!
Since 1988, Beechglen has specialized in providing our Account Management

www.beechglen.com for complete details.
By switching to Beechglen s Account Management Support service you will save
on average 63%! We would also be happy to subcontract your Hardware services
and be the single point of service, or put you in direct contact with one of
our outstanding Hardware Maintenance partners. The average Hardware Service
savings are 30%.
Please fax or email me a copy of your current service agreements, and I will
promptly return a quote that will provide immediate cost savings, and insure
ongoing support for as long as you want to run your HP3000 system.

MPE/iX Re-install instructions.
1. Make sure your backups include the ;DIRECTORY option on your backups or
:run buldacct.pub.sys;info= @ to create two job streams (BULDJOB1 and
BULDJOB2) that will rebuild the directory structure. You may want to put
these job stream files on your SLT also. *** BULDJOB1 has all of your
account/user/group passwords embedded in it so you should not leave it lying
around on your system. For insurance , we suggest doing the BULDACCT stuff
anyway.
2. When possible have two backups just in case your backup media is damaged.
Once you start the install process there is no going back.
3. Shut down your system. (ctrl-A shutdown)
4. Do a ctrl-B then type in RS to begin the reboot process. Put the CSLT on
the alternate boot path.
5. If you have autoboot enabled you will see a message that says Autoboot
in progress. Press any key within 10 seconds to override . If you get this
message, press any key to interrupt the autoboot process. The type in N to
boot from primary path and Y to boot from alternate path. If you do not
have autoboot enabled you simply want to select boot from alternate or type
in the path of your tape drive. Refer to your configuration listing to
verify that the alternate boot path is pointing to the correct tape drive.
If on directing boot from alternate one gets some kind of hex dump ending
with some sort of -4 then this indicates that the alternate boot path is
incorrect or that one of the other devices has the same address as the
alternate boot device or that something is interfering with communication
with the true alternate boot path (as in a bad device flooding the channel
with garbage).
If one gets a dump along with some message that indicates something like
Bad LIF MAGIC , then you are being told that that the device at that
address does not contain an operating system.
6. Answer Y to Interact with IPL
7. At the ISL prompt type in INSTALL. Once you type in install you are past
the point of no return.
8. All core system files will be loaded in. At this point only Ldev 1 will
be in the disc volume table. You need to add all of your other drives in
using VOLUTIL. Check your configuration listing for which drives and how
many were in user volumes. Now is the time to make changes if necessary.
9. :VOLUTIL
volutil: SCRATCHVOL 2
volutil: SCRATCHVOL 3
repeat for all disks in LONER state as reported by :DSTAT ALL
volutil: NEWVOL MPEXL_SYSTEM_VOLUME_SET:MEMBER2 2 100 100
volutil: NEWVOL MPEXL_SYSTEM_VOLUME_SET:MEMBER3 3 100 100
repeat for all disks
volutil: EXIT
10. From the SLT that you created THAT INCLUDED your system DIRECTORY
info
RESTORE *T;;DIRECTORY;SHOW=OFFLINE
11. Now you can begin your restore.
RESTORE *T;@[log in to unmask]@;CREATE;KEEP;OLDDATE;SHOW=OFFLINE
12. Run NMMGR and validate the DTS/LINK configuration and glue it back in to
SYSGEN. If you have networking products you should also validate NS.
:NMMGR
Press F1 (Open Config)
Press F5 (Utility)
Press F3 (Go To VALIDATE)
Press F1 (Validate NETXPORT) to validate network subsystem
Press <return> after successful validation. Will be prompted.
Press F2 (Validate DTS/LINK) to validate DTS subsystem
Press <return> after successful validation. Will be prompted.
