I've had problems with keeping the integrity of spool file CCTL, especially
with pre vs. post spacing. Pre spacing is used in a lot of applications,
especially if written in COBOL. The control character is "A" and will
appear in the first column (CCTL column) of the first line. It will result
in spacing before printing rather than after printing which is the default.
One sure way to mess up the CCTL is to print from the actual spool file in
OUT.HPSPOOL (I think I saw that recommended as an option) or a from a copy
of that that file. I don't remember all the methods that don't work, but
here are three that do.

1. Transfer the spool file between systems via tape. (STORE, SPXFER,
NBSPOOL - keeps all attributes including report name, job name, user,
account, etc)
2. COPY (or DSCOPY) the spool file from OUT.HPSPOOL and use "SPOOLF
filename;PRINT;DEV=????".
3. Use NBSPOOL MERGE to create a file from the spool file, DSCOPY the
file to another system, then use the MPE PRINT command to a back referenced
file with the CCTL option. File x=report;dev=lp;cctl Print filename,*x
This is the method I have used in production.

Thanks,
Tom Genute

It's been four years, but I swear I could remember opening a
connection to
another 3000 with DSLINE and / or REMOTE HELLO, then setting
a file equation
for the other system's printer, and just printing to the
file equated LDEV.
Neat, at least as quick in man minutes as moving the file,
and relatively
easy. Can anyone else fill in some details of doing this?

While I know it is possible to ftp spool files (not pretty,
just doable), I
guess this is one thing DSLINE has over telnet, eh?
