The  University telephone switch was hit by an electrical surge during the
thunder storm on Friday.  Due to the installed surge suppression system,
damage was limited to part of the redundant electrical system.

The switch was returned to service Friday afternoon and is currently
operating normally, without this redundant system.  All telephone service
should be normal. If you experience any problem with you telephone, please
call  the telephone trouble number 4784.

The damaged parts were placed on order Friday and are scheduled to arrive
Tuesday July 6, 1999.  The replacement of these parts will require a short
outage, which will be scheduled after normal business hours.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as the Communication Services
staff work to complete the required repairs.
