Initializing to zeroes doesn't seem to address the Frank's requested DoD 5220-22.M specification.

I can presume several things things from the original question, he doesn't have a Type I or Type II degausser, and since he want's to use them again, he's not going to melt them. And lastly they aren't Top Secret, or he would be asking.

That discards DoD 5220-22.M spec methods "a", "b", and "m" so that only leaves method "d".

Using method "d" has to write random characters. Since zeroes are not a random character, using Paul's method won't work.

Some other fellow here mentioned creating a huge file, (like axlspace in the MPE Software Manual, only bigger.) Then fcopy some big program (like nmmgr) to it in a while-endwhile loop until it crashes. Repeat with smaller chunky files until you fill the gaps. If you can't build an alxspace big enough to fill all your discs, build another with a different name and repeat.

On second thought, there's enough open source software out there in the PC world to accomplish the task. Put the drives on the PC first, THEN use the PC software to accomplish the task.
