I worked at Boeing for 10 years. One of the concepts was the totem(as in totem pole) system. Every employee in each group was given a totem by his manager. As I recall A, B, C or D. When layoff time came all the D's were eligible. Well it was probably not that simple, but that was the concept. After the layoff everyone was totemed again. You always knew where you stood in the group.

This concept was great but sometimes the whole group was let go.

I wonder if they still do this?

I must agree. If this is true, it is not only disgraceful but supremely
stupid. The costs in lost talent and negative impact on employee morale are
incalculable. I can't comment on the truth of this article, but if you
believe it, sell your HP stock!!!

I've been wondering for years when a company would have the gall to pull
something like that. If this is true, it's beyond disgraceful.

The title of the article is "The mystery of the HP layoffs revealed."

If you go to read it, make sure the URL doesn't rap. It's kind of a
long
