Greg and list:

I support Greg's proposal and invite more of you fellow MPE'ers for a response. To recapitulate:

Open MPE with Open VMS, acquired and administered by Apple: great concept!

John,

Thank you for your kind words of support. I was likewise more than flattered
by Ron Seybold's praise. But my suggestion received almost no on-list
response. So, if you wouldn't mind responding, even at length, to my
proposal, that would be most welcome. Thanks!

Gregory:

Snowed in (!) in Olympia, WA with the second WA snowstorm I've experienced
in my 2 years here, so forgive my late response.

I think your ideas have much to be said for them. There is a certain amount
of commonality between the 2 O/S's IMHO that may (or of course, not) assist
in one company addressing both facilites.

I support your proposal. Now, if only we can find the requisite
financing....

I wouldn't mind you giving it part of the day Wednesday to see if anyone
else has something to say about my post. I would hope that those who are
loyal to Apple / Mac or those that have specific ideas about what could
reinvigorate the 3000 will say something useful. Or this may be one of those
threads that consists of a single post. I've written a few too many of those
for my own liking, and perhaps too many for the likings of others.

But, if no one has anything to add to my Apple CSY suggestion, feel free to
respond to this with your thoughts on two open proprietary solutions. When
someone on the OpenVMS USENET forum invited us to jump on their bandwagon, I
suggested collaboration, on the unfounded assumption that porting to MPE
must have something in common with porting to OpenVMS.

Do you think Compaq or Hewlett Compackard would consider divesting both
units to form their own company? And could it be a happy union?
