the HP3000 that concedes the middle tier in the 3-tier C/S model to
Windows NT and HP-UX? One of MPE/iX's greatest weaknesses is its
inability (or HP's unwillingness) to be   scaled to the desktop; however,
I always thought it's worry-free operation made it an excellent
department or application system.>>
 
Probably not much more than that those boxes are better bang-for-the-buck
file/print servers than the 3000, and have RPC-server capability built
in. It's hard to justify a $60,000 iX box as a file server. It's also
hard to justify the other two as hosts for do-or-die transaction-type
services.
