The reason you can't use older dates is because of the Y2K implementation
used in MANMAN: date windowing was used such that years 50-99 are 20th
century and years 00-49 are 21st century. Also the julian calendar used was
supposedly based on (or near) Sandy Kurtzig's son's day of birth.

I'm told that the oldest ASK date is 1950-01-01, represented by -8401.
(I have no idea why you can't use values -32768..-8402 to
represent older dates!) Given the layout/interpretation of
ASK dates, I can only conclude that drugs were involved :)
