Here's an interesting problem for you-all:
We have a remote system that is supposed to be a mirror of
our host system (both are 918's), so after we updated the
host machine to PP4, we cut an SLT and I sent my associate
to Texas to update the remote system. After shutting down
the remote system, booting from the alternate (DDS) boot
device, and entering UPDATE at the ISL> prompt, the system
repsonds as normal with the current date and time and
dutifully asks if they are correct or not. My associate,
also very dutiful, notes that the date and time are not
correct and changes them. At this point the boot hangs,
with no tape activity. A complete system power down,
followed by another UPDATE and change in date/time,
produced the same results. A third complete system power
down and another UPDATE (this time with no date/time
change) worked okay.
So why would the system hang when the date and time are
changed? Has anybody ever seen anything like this?
