Yes...another product originated (IIRC) by HP ... where it was
called "Sofware Integration Sockets" (dumb name).

HP marketing didn't understand it, and dropped it.

Several years later, IBM introduced their version, making the concept
wildly popular.

The HP SIS product runs on the 3000 and 9000, and possibly other
Unix machines.  It was still being supported as of mid 1998.

("Another product"? ... remember the Kittyhawk disk drive?
or handheld DOS/Windows95 machines (HP 95/100/200LX --> IBM 110)
and to some extent 3000 -> AS/400)
