At the risk of staring one of the classic threads-that-will-not-die on the
subject of "declassifying" disk drives, I'll point out that it probably
would cost you relatively little to keep the drive mechanisms when you
sell the system.  They make nice paperweights, and for extra security
they can be disassembled fairly easily into a pile of bolts, electronics,
some shiny disk platters, and a couple of extremely cool magnets.
