You probably did this because javac hogs lots of resources and
is painfully slow ;-) Anybody having to do java compiling on the
3000 might want to look into IBM jikes, a little native program
to generate .class files from .java sources (javac alternative).

However, using Java compiler and or IDE on Linux or Windows and
just placing the results on the 3000 via Samba is probably still
much more convenient ;-)
