There is a commercial piece of software from OpenSeas I think it was, I did
a review for the 3000 News Wire last year, check their archives.  They
handle spool and text files.  There is also a perl script floating around
that converts text files to PDF, check the 3000-l archives, it's been
talked about in the last few months.  You could probably "teach" it about
carriage control.
