In an earlier post about a problem we encountered with serial
I/O, I noted that serial printer profiles on MPE/iX 5.0 are hard
configured to grab as many as 16 terminal buffers. This explains
why the spooler may report a file done even though many pages
(paper) remain to be actually printed. And one of the reasons why
recovery is so haphazard. This is the most frustrating aspect of
working with serial printers; especially when you have worked
with HP-IB connected printers and their very robust recovery
capabilities.

I realize this may have other (unforeseen and potentially
dangerous) consequences, but if the system manager had the
ability to adjust this number (down), tuning for actual
conditions and needs, it seems that we could improve the recovery
ability for serial spooled printers. Particularly for small spoolfiles
or when problems occur near the end of a print run.

Any comments? From "spoolers'are'us"?
