Here is another take on the story.

http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/news/0,4586,2641100,00.html?chkpt=zdhpnews01

I found the last few paragraphs illuminating:

Now Clayton County's technology contract -- valued at $3 million a year over
the next three years -- is up for grabs again. Next year, the district intends
to debate which computing platform and vendor to go with. Holmes says he isn't
ruling out any computer company and is considering everybody from Dell to Apple
to Compaq Computer Corp.

"Compaq has been in touch with me quite a bit and they say they'll be very
aggressive on price," says Holmes. And Apple? "I haven't talked to an Apple rep
in over a year and a half," Holmes says. "A lot of teachers used to feel that
Apple was the education machine. Now I don't hear that anymore."

Kind regards,

Denys. . .
