this is a 'bad thing'.  some files *have* to live on ldev 1.  i believe the
above altfile -- if actually done -- would result in a serious dent being put
in the poor system manager's tums bottle 8-|                   - d

I agree, depending on what third party software, i.e. Netbase from Quest, and a
couple others, the command
should read something like

ALTFILE @[log in to unmask]@[log in to unmask]@[log in to unmask]@[log in to unmask]@.telesup(ONDEVICE(1));DEV=2
