Forgive me for being thick, but the issue was stated:

So I'm assuming that you can run Designer from both connections, i.e. 
you have a session and are running a program and that you create a 
"design" and that it is when the design is saved that the "hang" occurs?

It's far more likely to be one of the types of issues that donna or 
Kevin describe than any network issue.

I assume that Designer runs on the HP3000 not on the PC that uses 
Reflection to save the file back to the HP3000?
