I recently upgraded the memory on our 947RX. The system originally had
128MB in three banks (a bank is two SIMMs): 32, 32, and 64MB. I was told by
a dealer that I could add in 3 more banks of 128MB each. I bought the
memory from our local Kingston supplier, the memory arrived, and I tried to
install it. I couldn't get it to all work together, but did get it to run
fine with just the new memory in three banks of 128MB each. Part of the
confusion is that the memory installation instructions (Kingston's) were for
a Model 8xx processor and show 6 banks on the memory card. Only 5 banks are
on the memory card in my system. Ostensibly, there is some memory on the
motherboard/backplane, but the system sees only 384MB at this time.

Was the dealer out-to-lunch in saying that the HP947 will use more than the
documented maximum of 384MB? Does anyone know if there is a way to use any
of the old memory in the system? I am also concerned that I need to have at
least some HP memory in there for maintenance contract reasons. Are there
rules for the order in which the banks must be populated?

Please respond directly as well as to the newsgroup if possible.

TIA for your help.
