I made the change and still no difference.  Here is a snipit from our
hosts file.  Keep in mind, before I tried Samaba, there was no entry for
XL3, only the loop back.  To test out Patrick's idea, I commented out
the line with the fully qualified name and ailias and just put a
seperate entry:

127.0.0.1    localhost loopback me myself local
# 10.1.8.248    xl3.co.frederick.md.us xl3
10.1.8.248     xl3
