I remember working on a system which was build for the army but never functional in the pentagon. There were 3 machines ever made by singer which I believe later became part of GE. These machines had an 8 byte word with each byte being 6 bits + parity. The memory was only core memory and we only had 48 k words which today would be 384 KB. The system was used in a university setting and many nights of calculations and printing for missile nozzle burn simulations were done. One console and card readers. We had 6 tape drives of 556 bpi density. Water cooled. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Larry Simonsen Phone: 801-489-2450 Flowserve Corporation Fax: 801-491-1750 PO Box 2200 http://www.flowserve.com Springville, UT 84663 e-mail: [log in to unmask] ------------------------------------------------------------------------
