Jeff Writes: >1) just show the first 9 bytes of the model and thus not change the > starting column for the 'volume' and 'volume set-gen' fields. No, if we are going to change lets try and include everything. >2) reserving 24 bytes, but that seems excessive and would look like: > > LDEV-TYPE STATUS VOLUME (VOLUME SET - GEN) > ---------- -------- -------------------------- >12345-C23456789 MASTER MEMBER1xxxxxxxxx(MPEXL_SYSTEM_VOLUME_ >SET-0) Damn now those manufacturers want to create 24 byte model numbers, why? Anyway, I think the model number is important I want to see the whole thing. Maybe you can come up with shorter codes for the STATUS field like "MAS" for MASTER and "MEM" for MEMBER and "SCR" for SCRATCH and "MMD" for MEMBER-MD and so on. All the other fields you want to see the full text but, the status could be abbreviated and everyone would still know exactly what you mean. This would free up enough bytes for those disc manufacturers to almost make a run on sentence a model number...:-) Sincerely, Joshua Johnson HP3000 Systems Manager MicroWarehouse
