True, but it is possible to come up with a purely phonetic spelling
for any true spoken language, so while the Navajo never had a written
language of their own, the words could have been written phonetically
as in a Navajo/English dictionary (I have one somewhere).  So if there
really was a cryptographic value to the language itself, it certainly
*could* have been written down for that purpose.
