I know that by posting this, it will be gatewayed to the newsgroup, and my UCE will go up, but: I want to read a bytestream file with FOPEN/FREAD and get the file's data exactly as it appears (if the file has 8 bytes and a newline, that's what I want to see). I've been doing an FREAD, asking for 1024 bytes, but all I'm getting is 72 bytes (it should be 72 bytes and a newline). Can I do this, and if so, how? I've tried specifying binary (fopt.(13:1):=0), but this gets overridden because it is bytestream. Would NOBUF (aopt.(7:1):=1) help? If I have to call HPFOPEN, I don't mind doing that. I'm trying to avoid having to write a little block of C routines to do the IO, but if I can't do anything else quickly, that's what I'm going to do. Thanks in advance, -- Tom Kirby <[log in to unmask]> P.S. Because I want to, OKAY????? 8^) ______________________/\_/\_/\_/\_/\_/\_/\_/\_/\_/\_/\_/\_/\_/\_/\_/\_/\_ Thomas F.
