If you don't need to live up to any particular decertification standard
then you should be able to perform a pattern write/read error rate test in
CS80UTIL on the 70 or CS80DIAG on the 980 that should effectively erase
the media.  Someone from one of the 3rd party hardware maintainers that
does this more often than I do probably can offer more info.
