Here's a cute trick the 3000 just started: progrumer enters a job stream interactively at his terminal enters :eoj or : get's logged off. Is this maybe a freebie from posix, the "feature" where you enter <ctl> D to terminate a terminal read and, if in command mode, it'll log you off? Or maybe a present from the lab?
