Hi Terry, Oh Boy, oh boy.... now, where did that soapbox go too??? hehehe I would love to show that article to a vendor that was B*tching about how SRN put 20 characters in all phone number fields about a year ago... I mean have you ever tried to enter a foreign (sp) number??? I would rather expand the phone number length now... after all the way US West works... it will take 'em 20 years to assign us new phone numbers hehehehe Art Bahrs >>> "SIMPKINS, Terry" <[log in to unmask]> 07/26/97 10:58am >>> From the SF Chronicle "Business" section, Saturday, July 26 "As supply of area codes shrinks, more digits needed" .......... "experts at Bellcore expect that by the year 2031, all area codes will be exhausted" and then we'll have to increase the length of phone numbers, "that time frame may be optimistic, said Hugh Burrows, a Canadian telecommunications consultant who is working with the Industry Numbering Group, a North American task force trying to decide what kind of numbering scheme to adopt in the future." Just as we begin to get a grip on the "YR2000" issue, we get to start worrying about phone number lengths. Since you are already going to be in the code, now may be a great time to start expanding those phone number fields. Terry W.
