100VG uses (If I recall correctly) all four pairs in the Cat3 or
better cable in parallel to keep the frequency down (and thus be able
to match all the topologies that 10BaseT supported as if not more (?)
robustly). There are no spare pairs for running full-duplex, but
presumeably, VG over fibre could do such a thing.

100BaseTX uses only two pairs of Cat 5 or better cable and can go
full-duplex, but cannot support the same topologies as 10BaseT.

I hear less about 100BaseT4 than I do about VG.

FDDI can be run full-duplex (but not the HP-PB FDDI card) when you use
an FDDI switch.
