[This note has been sent to the following InterNet address(es): [log in to unmask]] The "Success" stories so far seem to deal with the durability of the series III or the ease of powerfail recovery. Well, here's another along the same lines. When I was working for a Telecommunications company in California, part of my job was to consolidate all the HP3000s (mostly series IIIs, 48s and 70s) into one room. However, for various reasons, one series III had to remain in a remote building across a road. One morning, after a horrendous downpour the night before, I wandered over to the remote site and couldn't believe my eyes when I walked into the room. During the night, a leak had developed in the roof and water had poured onto the ceiling tiles. They had disintegrated and fallen through onto the CPU and its disk drives below. There was water all over the floor and bits of ceiling tiles all over the series III but somehow, the system was still humming away quite happily. They don't make them like that any more ! Cheers, John Dunlop
