I taking a wild guess here, but could it be hanging on some artificial
limit?  Is it the 32767th file? 16383rd? 65535th?  If so, it may not be the
file's fault, but an MPEX problem.

Is the file it's hanging on a message file?  If so try "(not ismsg)" in the
fileset specification.
