The JDK is at alpha sites now. I believe the official marketing timeline is 'first half 1997' for official release; unofficially, I really hope we'll be ready to release by the end of this year. : I'm expecting and hoping the use of JAVA will enable me to access all of my : HP data files (KSAM, Turbo Image, and Flat Files) from PCs connected to my : internal network. Well, sort of. JAVA doesn't know anything about any of the MPE data files, although people may use JAVA on the 3000 to develop class libraries (or packages) to access these types. The Java DataBase Connectivity (JDBC) add-on will allow Java programs to access files via ODBC, but this isn't giving you any access to 3000 files that you don't have with ODBC alone. I wasn't clear from your statement above if you thought Java was going to give you new capabilities you didn't have before, or if you just want to use Java as the way to access existing ODBC functionality. : I know there is an ODBC driver for Image/SQL but I havn't heard of a driver : for KSAM or the Flat Files on the HP3000 or a direct ODBC to Turbo Image : data bases. Does anyone know of any other ODBC drivers? The ODBCLink product from M.B. Foster Associates provides ODBC access to KSAM & flat files. Some folks on this list are also working on 'ADBC' drivers, which will be used instead of ODBC to provide faster, native access to TurboIMAGE databases from Java programs. -- ----------------------------------------------------------------- Mike Yawn Hewlett-Packard email [log in to unmask] Commercial Systems Division Voice (408) 447-4367 19447 Pruneridge Ave M/S 47UA Fax (408) 447-4441 Cupertino, CA 95014 -----------------------------------------------------------------
