Please pardon my near total ignorance of HP and Apple products. I need
information on connecting an HP Deskwriter for an Apple computer to an
IBM compatible PC through the serial port. Can it be done? Here's the
background information.

My brother-in-law's fifteen year-old daughter is trying to put together
a computer system. Unfortunately they are dirt poor, so she is trying
to build the system using donated and used components. She got the HP
Deskwriter from her rich Aunt, but unfortunately, due to a burned out
power component (card, supply, switch or whatever) not the Macintosh
computer that was used with it. She can buy a used IBM compatible PCs
fairly cheaply as they are plentiful, but she would like to attach the
HP printer to the computer she buys.

I looked through the printer manual and noted that a serial interface
was supported; so I supposed that a PC driver might be available. I
checked the HP site at www.buds.co.uk but I couldn't find anything.
Does anyone know of a DOS or Windows printer driver for this
configuration? I've only set-up parallel interface printers; so is
there anything special I should know when looking for a RS 232 serial
cable for this combination?

Thanks for your help.
