Hi Vince,

regarding your question about "send mail from an HP3000"
two or three things come to my mind immediately...

a) There is some ported version of "sendmail" available
on http://jazz.external.hp.com (free of charge) which
I haven't tried yet but it might help you.

b) There is a freeware version of Netmail/3000 available
at http://www.3k.com -- which I am using at present to
send you this message from "my" 3000/959-200 at work.

(no need for mailx as it offers its own interface for
terminal users and POP3 server for fancy clients like
Eudora (freeware) or <plug alert> Netscape Mail)

c) The freeware version of (b) is restricted to 2 users
but the full product <plug alert> is available from
3k Associates at http://www.3k.com -- you should get
their 45-day trial version and examine that, too!

(For those of us using HPDESK or OpenDESK: DeskLink/3000
from 3k Associates (plug again) adds a nice SMTP Gateway
without the need to buy/maintain a UX box for this...)

Cheers, Lars/iX

[log in to unmask] (but only speaking for myself here)

By the way, does "mature product" always need to mean
"dead product" ?? I sometimes feel it also means "less
fiddling" due to less frequent new versions to update.
