these are the steps to create a dns on a hp-ux 10.x box. Login as root, and do the following (remember that my training is in MPE!): 1. Create the hosts file in /etc/hosts 2. edit the /etc/resolv.conf file to point to the correct nameserver 3. mkdir /etc/named.data 4. cd /etc/named.data 5. hosts_to_named -d [domain name] -n [network number] -b /etc/named.boot 6. type named to start the name server In addition, you will need to enable the nameserver from /etc/rc.config.d/namesvrs. 1. vi /etc/rc.config.d/namesvrs 2. change the NAMED=0 to NAMED=1 For 9.x, the process is the same except that the file to change NAMED=0 to NAMED=1 is /etc/netbsdsrc (I think!). To kill the named daemon, you would use sig_named kill. This would kill your name server if you want to make changes. The command named would be used to start it again. On the HP3000, you will need to edit the RESLVCNF.NET.SYS and put the nameserver's (HP9000) IP address in there. That should do the trick. yuhsin -- my opinions do not reflect that of hp's response center ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: Re: DHCP/WINS and the HP 3000 Author: Non-HP-gilles ([log in to unmask]) at HP-Singapore,mimegw30 Date: 8/1/96 12:52 PM >It's interesting that you have the HP9000.
