I just realized that thinking of the CD-ROM as an alternative Proceedings
isn't really a valid comparison. Generally, each paper in the Proceedings
has far more detail than is given during the presentation, and may
include graphics as well.
 
Perhaps comparing the CD-ROM to the (expensive) audio tapes is much more
valid. Further, the CD-ROM could include the Proceedings, graphics and
all, in Adobe Acrobat form.
