Wow! "A.10.01", "MPE XL" -- you are on very old (i.e. no longer
supported) software. In fact, I'm not sure how old that is, since I
don't keep a record of V.UU.FFs -- but I do know that that is way
older than Release 4.0 (MPE/iX B.40.00), which is the oldest release
still supported.

In Release 5.0 (C.50.00), I believe that a :SETCLOCK command was
introduced that did exactly what you wanted -- change the system time
without bringing the system down. In releases previous to 5.0, you
are correct -- you have to set the time during the system boot.

btw: Release 5.0 was shipped to all customers with support
         contracts about a year ago.
