Karl - Most barcode packages on the market are for the MS-DOS, Windows, and Macintosh environment. The products available for Unix are generally for SCO or other Intel processor platform. We have Soft Font Generators for Code 39 and Code 128 barcodes, and are working on a Postnet version. It was supposed to be done a few weeks ago but it keeps getting shoved aside by more immediate concerns. The soft font generator accepts command line parameters (bar width, height, etc.) and produces a font. The file containing the font can be simply copied to a HP LaserJet or other PCL-5 printer, where it becomes memory resident. The application code just inserts the necessary PCL-5 command to switch to the barcode font, sends the data (with necessary start, stop, and check digit characters), and then switches back to normal text. Does this sound like an appropriate solution? You can find information on things we currently have available at http://www.mecsw.com.
