<<I am interested in hearing from any one with experience with the new
series of DAT drives from HP, particularly the Model 4000DC. What is the
capacity on a 120M and 90 M tape? How many GB per hour per drive are you
storing?

The HP brochure indicates 8GB capacity with DC and 4GB per hour. A chart
in a handout from a tutorial at
Interex indicates 14GB capacity with DC and 6.3GB per hour. I am
wondering what the real world experience has been.>>

"Real-world" experience is very much dependent on your data. The native
capacities of the media mentioned are 4 and 2 GB respectively. Our
databases compress about 4:1, so we could put around 8 or 16 GB on a tape
if we had it. As it is, our 2.7 GB backup volume fits on a 90M DDS in a
4000DC with lots of room to spare, and it takes 49 minutes to put it
there, with a "SHOW" to a file probably showing things up a bit.
