We are looking at alternative strategies for running an Internet server (WWW, FTP, etc.), library system (VTLS), and email for the entire campus (4,500) on new MPE/ix *and/or* HPUX boxes. We are also looking seriously at the possibility of using NFS mounts to share file systems between MPE/ix, various Unix types, PCs (windows), and Macs. With NFS, we could use a large MPE box as a file server for the whole or we could have a large HPUX box as a file server and just do some of the processing on MPE. Any thoughts or suggestions on the alternative strategies would be appreciated. We will end up with adding both Unix and MPE, the question is which way to expand the most and which duties to give each box. We currently have both MPE (hp3000-967 and -918) and HPUX (hp9000-730), but we expect to more than double our processing capacities and file systems with these coming additions. Thanks in advance. --rg -- - - - Speaking for myself and not necessarily anybody else - - - - - - Richard Gambrell | Internet: [log in to unmask] Mgr. Tech.
