Has anyone else had a sudden failure of the full-height
C3010M 2GB winchester discs? We had a read failure on
one of the units (in the system domain, alas).

Recovery was extremely nasty--HP booted the system (an
HP957) with a UNIX kernel and tried to copy to DAT tape,
which wouldn't work, then tried to a disc-to-disc copy,
which looked as if it had worked, but when MPE/iX was booted
up, it immediately spat a horrific dummy--automatically
dismounted all discs and blew up! Had to do a re-install
followed by extremely lengthy and tedious rebuilding of
the system from fragmented backups.

My question is--what is the experience of others with these
discs? It seems to me that there isn't much point in the
predictive monitoring function if the discs can fail so
suddenly with no prior warning.
