Announcing the January '95 TCU Broadcast HP is very pleased to announce the third broadcast in the highly successful "Technology Close-up" series. This is a series of technical broadcasts, available from HP at no charge, in which we explore how the HP 3000 can be used together with the many new technologies and products that are available from HP and from third parties. The title of the January TCU program is "IMAGE/SQL and Client/Server Tools". This program will continue in the same vein as the earlier two offerings. The material will be presented with a strong visual flair, a sense of humor and with the same sort of "do-it-yourself" flavor that made the first two shows so successful. This program can be thought of as a continuation of the first TCU broadcast on Desktop Integration. In that program, which aired in February of '94, we began addressing client/server technologies from the point of view of an absolute beginner, concentrating on the issues that surround the building of a local area network to accomodate both your HP 3000 and desktop systems such as HP Vectras and "Vectra Compatibles". This time out, we will shift the focus to software. We'll look at ways to use software packages that run on your desktop together with IMAGE/SQL or ALLBASE databases on the HP 3000 to build true client/server solutions. We'll examine some of the technologies that can be used to almost magically change traditional COBOL/VPLUS/IMAGE programs into state of the art client/server solutions. And most importantly, we'll talk to some of the customers who have moved into a client/server environment, and see just exactly how they were able to make the transition successfully. (And while we're at it, we'll examine some of the mistakes that were made along the way, so that you don't have to repeat them). The TCU broadcasts have been an unqualified success. HP 3000 customers can register for the January broadcast, or order videotapes of earlier programs by calling the CSY Customer Connection hotline (1-800-224-hp3k). The first TCU broadcast addressed client/server technology. The second, which aired in July '94, addressed release 5.0 of MPE/iX.
