Ideally you want to be able to run the terminal emulator in such a way that the close Windows box isn't shown - we use minisoft and I've never found a way of doing this. Reflections, on the other hand, being a functionally richer product may offer this as an option. However, the problem isn't just as simple as irratating FREAD errors being reported on the console. If the user is in the middle of a long transaction and decides to shut down their terminal emulator, it's possible to leave the database hung or corrupt. (The problem is that the shutting down of the terminal emulator also terminates the applicaiton on the HP at a very low IO level). ________________________________ From: HP-3000 Systems Discussion [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Shahan, Ray Sent: 28 September 2005 17:04 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: [HP3000-L] VIEW error Hi all, Ok, we found out why the error shows up. We send all on-line users' STDLIST to specific trace files per user to be used a research in the event of an anomaly. What we found after talking to several users is that rather than exit the hp application they are running, they sometimes simply close the Minisoft window via the WINDOWS close box at the top right of the screen (and yes, our training manual states not to end apps in this manner). We could recreate this problem, and verify that it happened every time. Anyway, just wanted to let all who answered my original post what the problem actually was. BTW, that we still have folks that get dropped during a session is now something that our network folks actually say could be something on their end - go figure. Have a great week! We have several separate programs that are running their own form files, and each gets the same error. All users are using a PC that's running Minisoft's emulator, and all of the programs that call VIEW are written in COBOL. None of the programs that have run into the problem (that I've checked) have been modified in months nor has the associated form file been modified either. The folks in tech-ops tell me that they've not done anything to Minisoft, so I'm stuck. This just started yesterday (that I'm aware of), and as far as I know, everything we were running/doing on Tuesday is the same stuff we were running/doing on Wednesday. Any ideas out there?
