Wilson, I don't know what is going on with the first tape (have you cleaned the drive completely?) but the second error message rings a bell. Are you doing the restore on the exact same drive you made the tape on? HP documented a similar issue recently: Store tapes were created as follows: STORE /BACKUP/@/@,/PROG/;;DIRECTORY;ONLINE=START;STORESET=(*DLT1),(*DLT2); MAXTAPEBUF;SHOW;STATISTICS;PROGRESS;COMPRESS=LOW Where dlt1 and dlt2 are ID: DLT7000 on PATH: 10/4/4.3.0 and 10/16/4.3.0. When attempt to restore these tape on the same device type but the following paths 10/16/12.4.0 and 10/16/12.5.0 the following occurs: RESTORE ;/BACKUP/DEN/@; OLDDATE;CREATE=CREATOR;SHOW; RESTORESET=(*PARA),(*PARB) /DEN602/PUB/T1.1.1 FAILED TO RECOVER PORTIONS OF COMPRESSED DATA If the restore is done on the same store devices, the error message does not occur. RESOLUTION The error is due to the dlt devices on the same device adapter. DLT7000 must be on different device adapter if tapes are to be used at the same time as in interleave option. (This provides a higher disk data rate. Interleaving is accomplished by reading from several disk drives (files) simultaneously. The file data is blocked together and then stored to the specified device(s). The effect is to accelerate the STORE process.) The work arounds are to not use tapes on same device adapter for interleave restore or put the dlt7000 devices on different device adapters. * To join/leave the list, search archives, change list settings, * * etc., please visit http://raven.utc.edu/archives/hp3000-l.html *
