FTP was enhanced a long long time ago in a place far far away... to
support transfer of most of the file types "unique" to MPE. This was
achieved by creating a proprietary transfer mode for MPE to MPE
transfers. Documentation on this feature can be found in the FTP "new
functionality" news file FTPDOC.ARPA.SYS... These changes included
successful transfer of CM Ksam and NM Ksam files... The only outstanding
problem with FTP and Ksam that I am aware of is FTP/iX fails to transfer an
empty CM Ksam file.

If you have found a problem with FTP and transfer of a Ksam file, you
should report it to the HP-Response Center.

James - This problem occurred at another site where I no longer work
(The FTP issue is one of many reasons why) but thanks for the information.

This was about 7 years ago or more, and I would not be surprised to find
out the systems people there did not know about this enhancement, if it
even existed then. I AM sure that if enhancing this cost a nickel more
a year then the plain vanilla version, it would not have 'existed'.

Their answer was to build a job to create the file and write a program
to initialize the file.
